 Properties of charoïte 
 Charoïte is a mineral belonging to the family of silicates, which often includes traces of other metals such as iron, aluminum, barium, manganese, etc ... charoïte is formed in limestone massifs, combined with elements like carbon and potassium, and brought to relatively high temperatures of the order of 200 to 250 degrees. The color of the charoïte varies between brown, lilac and purple. Its crystalline system is monoclinic, its line is white and its brightness is vitreous, even pearly in some cases. The density of the stone is 2.54 to 2.58. Its hardness is around 5 to 6 on the Mohs scale. 
 Charoite deposits are very rare, the most recognized site is in Siberia near Lake Baikal in the Aldan massif.

 History of the charoïte 
 The etymology of the word charoïte, which is pronounced tcharoïte comes from the name of the Chara river in the Republic of Sakha in Siberia. The discovery of the stone dates back to the 1940s but it was not really discovered and studied until the 1978s. The exploitation of this unique stone remains however very limited, since it is in an area difficult to access in one of the most hostile environments on the planet. 
 The fairly recent discovery of the charoïte as well as its rarity means that there is no mention or ancient trace of the use of this stone. Nowadays raw charoïte is the subject of a craze on the part of collectors for its particular colors. In jewelry, it is considered a fine stone, often cut in a cabochon or sculpted to make ornamental and decorative objects.
